Radha Prathikanti, age 10, of Montgomery, Alabama for her question:
Is there any evidence of a 10th planet?
Some time ago, there was a news report about a possible tenth planet. We waited and waited, expecting to hear that another planet had been discovered, way out there beyond little Pluto. But the strange planet was never spotted and we heard no more about it. Actually, we should have been told that the whole thing was a mistake.
This is what really happened. Certain astronomers suspected that they had some evidence of a tenth planet. They were careful to say that they were not sure. But everybody jumped to the idea that the evidence was proof and expected the strange planet to be spotted almost at once. It so happened that the astronomers took a more careful look at their evidence. This time they decided that they had been mistaken and they had no real, provable evidence. Of course, there may or may not be other planets out beyond Pluto. But as of now, nobody has any evidence to prove it.
