Gary Madden, age 12, of Duluth, Minn. for his question:
Where do hummingbirds build their nests?
Hummingbird parents usually build their nest in an angle between a couple of twigs. The site may be in a low rosebush or in a tree as high as 30 feet above the ground. Theneat little nest is built mainly from plant fibers, such as dandelion fluff, woven together with stolen spider web silk. The outside is cleverly disguised with bits of bark and flakes of lichen. The whole thing is about as big as half an eggshell, and it blends right in with the surrounding scenery. So in order to find it, you must hunt high and low and have very sharp eyes.
