Welcome to You Ask Andy

James Robert Dunlop, age 10, of Duncan, Ariz., for his question:

What do kangaroos eat?

The kangaroo is a strict vegetarian who eats no meat. Sometimes he nibbles a few green leaves from the bushes.

But his favorite food is grass, grass and more grass. This makes him a nuisance to the sheep farmers of Australia. As they develop more pasture land for their sheep, the kangaroo hops in and eats more than his share. The sheep have no front teeth in the upper jaw. They can nibble the grass only so short. The kangaroo has upper and lower front teeth. He can chew the grass right down to the roots  and sometimes the rascal even pulls up the roots.
