Welcome to You Ask Andy

George Garten, age 8, of Charleston, W. Va., for his question:

WHERE DOES A CABBAGE GET ITS SEEDS?

A cabbage grows its own seeds, but this happens to take quite awhile. The young plant spends perhaps three months growing its big fat head. Then it rests, maybe squatting right there on the ground all through the winner, doing nothing. When spring brings warm showers and sunshine, the cabbage sprouts up a thick stalk and grows its seeds. However, as a rule, we eat it when its round head is ready and it does not have time to grow seeds.
