Welcome to You Ask Andy

Bryan Jacobs, age 8, of Wallingford, Pa., for his question:

WHERE DOES CINNAMON COME FROM?

The plant world gives us chocolate and chewing gum, cinnamon and dozens of other tasty treats. Spicy smelling cinnamon adds its special spicy taste to apple pie. It is a present from a lovely laurel tree that grows in Ceylon. The flavor is in the bark of the trunk and twigs. This ginger colored bark is peeled off and dried. The papery layers may be rolled up and sold as cinnamon sticks. The rest is ground up and sent to market as cinnamon powder.
