Cindy Grant, age 11, of West Vancouver, B.C., Canada, for her question:
ARE SEA ANEMONES PLANTS OR ANIMALS?
The average sea anemone looks for all the world like a pretty little undersea plant. It seems rooted to the spot on a stubby stem and topped with a flower of fingery petals. Nevertheless, the pretty creature is an animal. The flowery top is a round mouth surrounded by fingery tentacles. As scraps of food float by, his tentacles grab them and stuff them into his mouth. From there they go down to be digested inside his stubby trunk.
