WHAT IS A GUANACO?
The guanaco, the alpaca and the vicuna are smallish, humpless cousins of the camel family. Al1'of these camel cousins are natives of South America, where most of them live in the wild. The guanaco stands about 5 feet tall and wears a soft, woolly coat of tawny brown. He enjoys life on the plains of South America, roaming with a herd of his friends and relatives. Some experts suspect that the tame llama decended from wild guanaco ancestors.
