Sherry Landis, age 12, of Leola, Pa., for her question:
WHICH BIRD HAS THE WIDEST WINGSPAN?
A large eagle can spread his splendid wings five feet wide. The wandering albatross has a wingspan of 12 feet or more and without a doubt he is the champion of the bird world. His body is about as big as a goose and his lonely wanderings take him around and around the southern oceans. Strange to say, his wing muscles are rather weak and his wide wings are quite narrow. This explains why he soars on the winds and rarely flaps his widest of wide wings.
