WHERE DO AARDVARKS LIVE?
When Dutch settlers arrived in South Africa, they met a most startling animal. They had never seen anything like him, so naturally they had to find him a new name. They called him the aardvark, which is coined from two Dutch words meaning earth pig. The big, bulky termite eater grunts like a pig and in some ways looks like a pig. However, he is not related to the pigs though he is a champion burrower in the earth.
The aardvarks are native African animals. They are found almost everywhere on the continent, except in the sandy Sahara and in the dense tropical forests. However, they are seldom seen for they are not very plentiful. What's more, they usually sleep through the day and come out only at night to find\ their favorite food which is termites.
