Welcome to You Ask Andy

Jay Cejka, age 11, of Wauchula, Fla., for his question:

ARE ZEBRAS RELATED TO HORSES?

No two members of a human family are exactly alike, but all of them are related to each other. And way back in the family tree, they shared the same ancestors. This is also true in the family groups of animal classifications. The horse family is Equidae. It includes our various domestic horses and an assortment of wild horses, including the eye catching zebras of Africa.

All these horses, wild and tame, share basic physical features which make them different from all other animals. Scientists assume that all of them are related to each other ¬somewhat like members of the same family.
