Welcome to You Ask Andy

Eileen Jenkins Age 11, of Elmer, N. J., for her question:

Are all asteroids round?

The Planets are More or less Sphere Shaped balls they are sizable and massive bodies. Mass gives them gravity, and the force of gravity tends to pull them into ball shaped bodies. Asteroids are planetoids or midget planets. They do not have enough mass or gravity to exert much pull on the solid material from which they are made.

Ceres and Pallas are the biggest asteroids, and each is less than 500 Miles wide. These two and a few other large asteroids are round globes  But most of the medium and small. Asteroid bodies are of irregular shapes.
