Richard Kunze, Age 14, of Shawnee, Okla.,, for his question:
What is the Science that deals with snakes?
A scientist of the snake world is called a herpetologist, and the study of snakes is herpetology. The first two syllables of these words come to us from an ancient Greek Word Meaning to creep. It applies to the creeping creatures such as snakes, lizards and some of the amphibians.
At one time., the herpetologist was expected to be an expert on all of these creeping animals. But nowadays We are gathering more and more data, and scientists tend to specialize in one field or another. An expert could give his entire life to finding new facts about snakes and have no time left for the lizards and other creepers.
