WHAT IS A DADDY LONGLEGS?

Daddy longlegs looks like a long legged spider, but instead he is a harmless arachnid.

Another name for this creature, who is not an insect, is harvestman.

In England the crane fly is also called daddy longlegs, The crane fly is an insect that has wings and looks very much like a mosquito.

Back to the arachnid: he's a member of a class of small land animals. He has from one to six pairs of simple eyes and, unlike insects, he has no compound eyes. Some breathe like insects by means of air tubes, while others have breathing organs somewhat like lungs.

Daddy longlegs and his cousin the spider help man by eating insects.
