Kerri Lynne Lunt, age 14, of Sandy, Utah, for her question:
WHAT IS A NEWT?
A newt is a type of salamander that is classified as an amphibian, along with his cousin the frog. He hatches from an egg which is laid singly each spring on the leaves of plants underwater. The baby newt hatches in three to five weeks and lives the first part of his life underwater, breathing by means of gills.
