Laurie Ann Murphy, age 13, of Overland, Mo., for her question:
HOW DO CONTACT LENSES WORK?
Contact glasses are like regular eyeglasses, except that the contact lenses actually float on a thin layer of tears on the surface of the eye and they don't require frames that are usually associated with most vision helpers.
Eyes are first examined by an ophthalmologist or optometrist who prepares the correct prescription. The lenses, made of plastic that is light and thin, are then made in a laboratory. Almost anyone can wear contact lenses. Many
find initial discomfort but after a short period of time they adapt and find that the lenses are comfortable.
