No one person can be called the inventor of television since many early day scientists contributed to the development of the electronic means of communication.
The first giant step was taken in the early 1800s when man learned how to send communication signals through the air in the form of electromagnetic waves. The process is called radio communication.
Then in 1884, a German inventor by the name of Paul Gottlieb Nipkow invented a scanning device that sent pictures short distances. His system worked mechanically, rather than electronically as television does.
