Robert Gifford, age 9, of Huntington Beach, Calif., for his question.
HOW IS THE DATE FOR EASTER DETERMINED?
In 1980, Easter will fall on Sunday, April 6. In 1981 the date will move to April 19.
Easter is the Christian festival that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is perhaps the most important holy day in the religion.
The date for Easter is movable. It varies each year although a set formula is used to determine the correct date. Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21. It cannot come before March 22 nor can it come after April 25.
The first Nicene Council in A.D. 325 set the method for determining the date of Easter.
