Welcome to You Ask Andy

Jim Turner, age 15, of Lynn, Mass., for his question:

WHERE IS ARMAGEDDON?

Armageddon is a word which comes from the Hebrew “Har Megiddo,” which means Hill of Megiddo. Armageddon is located in the mountains of central Palestine, across the Plain of Esdraelon from Nazareth.

Armageddon is named in Revelation 16 of the Bible as the place where the rulers of the world will fight the last great battle between good and evil.

Many battles were fought during Bible times near the town of Megiddo.

In 1918, the British under General Allenby defeated the Turks at Armageddon.

Archaeologists from the oriental institute in Chicago have found temples, jewelry, art objects and other valuable archaeological items at Armageddon.

The name Armageddon has also come to be known as any great and decisive battle.
