Jon Williamson, age 14, of Beaumont, Texas, for his question:
WAS THERE REALLY A JAMES BOND?
There might be lots of men named James Bond. But the most famous one existed only in fiction.
James Bond, the sensational British secret service agent who meets fantastic adventures in all parts of the modern world, was created by English novelist Ian Fleming. During World War II, Fleming served as a personal assistant to the director of British Naval Intelligence, so some of Bond's later adventures might have been drawn from real experiences.
James Bond first appeared in 1953 in a book called "Casino Royale." The daring agent then appeared in more than a dozen additional books.
A series of motion pictures based on Fleming's novels helped spread Bond's fame and popularity.
