Welcome to You Ask Andy

Marie Ann Ortega, age 10, of Longview, Wash., for her question:

WHERE CAN YOU FIND WILD DINGO DOGS?

The dingo is a dog that can be found living wild only in Australia. Scientists believe that prehistoric men originally brought the first dingoes to the country many centuries ago.

A dingo is a medium sized dog, about as large as an English setter. The animal has an alert face, sharp, erect ears and a bushlike tail.

Most dingoes have yellowish brown fur. But the animal's color can range from yellowish white all the way to black.

Dingoes rarely bark, but they often howl. They hunt alone or in family groups. Their chief food is the wallaby, a small, kangaroo like animal. But because the dingoes also kill sheep, the Australian government has spent large amounts of money to get rid of the dogs.
