Mike Winter, age 8, of Kallispell, Mont., for his question:
WHERE DOES THE WOLVERINE LIVE?
The wolverine is a fur bearing animal, which lives in the northern woods of North America, Europe and Asia. At one time, wolverines roamed from northern Canada far south into the northern parts of the United States. But they are rare today because they have been hunted ruthlessly.
Europeans call the animal "glutton" because of its huge appetite. The animal is one of the most powerful animals for its size in the world.
Wolverines are related to badgers, skunks and otters. The animal has short legs and a heavy build. He grows to be about two and a half feet long and looks somewhat like a bear. He has dark, shaggy hair.
Wolverines are able to steal bait from hunters' traps with great cunning. Sometimes they seem to kill for the love of killing, and destroy more small animals than they can eat.
